Just a short newsletter this week

Kia ora pottery people! It’s been another hot one this week, we’ve been spraying the wet cupboards to keep the work in progress from drying out, and racing to get the recycled clay processed before it gets too hard! It’s also been fab seeing all the new faces and creations in the Term 1 classes.

Meet the Crew Mondays …on a Friday

This week we’re meeting Larissa Milsum! Who we imagine won’t need any introduction at all! Larissa’s previous role as Co-Manager at WSP has meant that pretty much all of you will have had the pleasure of talking with her at some point.

Larissa is now one of our Artists in Residence, and with her wealth of knowledge in how the studio runs, she is great at keeping all the pieces of the cog moving here. From glaze making and maintenance, to clay recycling, to studio maintenance, kiln loading, firing the gas kiln, not to mention answering the many questions from the newbie management team! It’s also not uncommon to see Larissa wielding the power tools to keep our studio in working order.

Larissa was drawn to potting through artist friends and started working at a production pottery studio around 3 years ago. Following that Larissa did one year of the Diploma in Ceramics here at WSP and then took up the role of Studio Assistant, progressing to Co-Manager. Now Larissa is concentrating on making her own work and enjoys making her signature plinths and shelves.

Outside of the studio, Larissa enjoys baking cakes to put on her plinths and gardening. Give her a cheeky hello next time you’re in the studio :-)
