Kia ora koutou e te whaanau

Open Day is on tomorrow!! We’re pretty excited about it, and super stoked about the number of volunteers who’ve signed up to help us – thank you so very much <3 Today we’re tarting up the studio and putting some spangles on her and, with luck, this weather will pass before Saturday and we’ll have heaps of visitors to introduce to our awesome clay whānau.

Liz Sharek Workshop – Saturday 4th May

Playful, wild and seriously fun - Liz Sharek's works are true delights.

And we are extremely lucky to have her here in the WSP studio for a day to share her construction and glaze secrets.

This workshop will include a hand-building component, based on her 'reef' works, and a glazing component. Liz will also demonstrate her underglaze application method. Check out Liz’s fantastic pieces on her website, and enrol in this workshop on our class bookings page.

2-day Greg Barron Workshop – 13th – 14th July

Renowned New Zealand Potter, Greg Barron will be with us on Saturday the 13th and Sunday the 14th of July for a “making and glazing for wood firing” workshop.

He will discuss clays and glazes, especially the importance of iron levels in these, and will talk in detail about shino glazes, as well as sharing the shino recipes he uses. He will go into kiln design and firing pattern. During the making of pots he will show methods of construction especially of larger forms and techniques of decoration.

Sign up for this workshop here.

Note that this workshop will be followed by a firing of the Phoenix wood kiln on the 10th-11th of August, with Greg Barron as the fire master. Save the dates!

The next Raku club is on Tuesday the 16th of April, 6pm – 9pm during Play with Clay. Sign up here and remember to bring bisqued pots to apply the special raku glazes to. More tips on suitable pieces are on the sign-up page.
