AGM. Term 2 Classes. Chucks, Chums & Lids. Maker's Marks.

Big Day of Clay.

First up, we’d like to say a huuuuge thank you to everyone who helped with Open Day! For those who were here you’ll know it was a glorious day and that we had a really great turnout with lots of family groups coming along. It was such a big team effort to show them all the WSP love. We are now firing and glazing all the awesome creations that were made on the day, so they can be ready for our new friends to collect in the coming weeks. Thanks everyone for making this such a great day. We had lots of great feedback about the event and the friendliness of our club.

Annual General Meeting

Tuesday 13th May 6pm.
This is one of our most important meetings of the year, and we’d love it if you came along and joined the korero about our club. We need a certain number of members present too, to make it all official and such, so we’re holding it on a Tuesday night during Play with Clay to make it accessible to everyone. Please come along, have a chat, help pass motions, minutes, and financial accounts. We make the meeting as short as we can, and we’ll share a kai! We literally can’t operate without your input in this way.

In the meantime you might like to consider joining the committee. It’s a voluntary position, but having enough committee members is essential to keep our society up and running. Committee members meet once a month via Zoom to keep us on track, pay the bills, and just make sure you have a place to come and pot. If you’d like to give back in this way, have a chat with us before the AGM and we’ll give you more info.

Chucks, Chums and Lids, with Tess May

A two-afternoon workshop, Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th May, 1.30 – 4.30pm

Ever had difficulty with turning pots on the wheel?.
Learn how to create chucks and chums to minimise damage to rims and finish off narrow necked shapes professionally, whilst cutting back on the time it takes to turn.

You will learn how to make your own chuck and chum to fit your pots, which can prevent your beautiful clay creations from tipping over or gouging, and trim pieces with narrow, uneven, or fragile rims. Also learn how versatile chucks and chums can be to easily turn lids

Day 1
Participants will throw cylinders, bowls, narrow-necked pots, a variety of lids and a chuck and a chum.

Day 2
At leather hard stage the above will be turned to create well-crafted feet using a chuck and a chum. You will also learn how to turn lids using these devices.

Making a Maker’s Mark with Yasmin Davis.

Sunday 18 May 1.30 – 4.30pm

Join Yasmin Davis to create your potter's mark stamp, or any other small texture stamps you have in mind!

In this workshop, you will learn to carve into plaster with a specialised tool to create small and intricate stamps. Once your design is finalised, you will use porcelain clay to make a negative impression. The porcelain clay then gets bisque fired and becomes your Maker's Mark stamp!
