Kia ora potters!
All the wonderful Open Day creations are making their way through the kilns lickity split, with huge thanks to Margaret, Sade and Tim who’ve all helped to glaze and get these fired. We can’t wait to see the attendees smiles when they come and collect their pieces 😊

AGM
Tuesday 13th May, 6.30pm
This is one of our most important meetings of the year, and we’d love it if you came along and joined the korero about our club. We need a certain number of members present too, to make it all official and such, so we’re holding it on a Tuesday night during Play with Clay to make it accessible to everyone. Please come along, have a chat, help pass motions, minutes, and financial accounts. We make the meeting as short as we can, and we’ll share a kai! We literally can’t operate without your input in this way.
In the meantime you might like to consider joining the committee. It’s a voluntary position, but having enough committee members is essential to keep our society up and running. Committee members meet once a month via Zoom to keep us on track, pay the bills, and just make sure you have a place to come and pot. If you’d like to give back in this way, have a chat with us before the AGM and we’ll give you more info.
The Latest Workshops
Chucks, chums and lids with Tess May
A two-afternoon weekend workshop on Saturday 10th May 1.30pm – 4.30pm
AND Sunday 11th May 1.30pm – 4.30pm
Intermediate Level Throwing
Ever had difficulty with turning pots on the wheel?.
Learn how to create chucks and chums to minimise damage to rims and finish off narrow necked shapes professionally, whilst cutting back on the time it takes to turn.
You will learn how to make your own chuck and chum to fit your pots, which can prevent your beautiful clay creations from tipping over or gouging, and trim pieces with narrow, uneven, or fragile rims. Also learn how versatile chucks and chums can be to easily turn lids.
Making a Maker's Mark with Yasmin Davis
Sunday 18th May, 1.30pm – 4.30pm
In this workshop, you will learn to carve into plaster with a specialised tool to create small and intricate stamps. Once your design is finalised, you will use porcelain clay to make a negative impression. The porcelain clay then gets bisque fired and becomes your Maker's Mark stamp!
Exhibition Opportunity – Last Chance!
A Potters Mark – The Arts Village, Rotorua
Entries close 12pm, Saturday 26th of April.
Exhibition runs from 3rd May to 31st May, 11am – 4pm
The collaborative ‘A Potters Mark’ Exhibition, anticipated for May, will be open to potters from across Bay of Plenty and Central Waikato to come together and celebrate the stories behind their work. In this exhibition potters will tell the life stories behind their pottery, answering the deeper questions as to why people ‘pot’, and allowing the community a glimpse into how the art of pottery can be a space for rehabilitation and connection.
