Members' meet-up | Upcoming workshop | Funding news | Pick-ups and drop-offs

We are at the end of another week at Level 3, and another few days to go before we hear about any possible loosening of restrictions. We are crossing our fingers that Monday brings news of a move down the levels. Those of you who are Term 3 students, you have put up with a lot of disruption now and we appreciate your patience. It would be so good to get you back in the studio to continue learning. We also have the amazing Javier Murcia scheduled to come the following weekend and that too is a very good reason to put our hopes of reopening out to the universe. We really want to see what people will create in this workshop as he is well known for bringing out the best sculptural skills in his students.

Here's some news this week.

Online meet-ups for members

On Tuesday evening we held an online meet-up session for members. Thank you to those who joined, it was a really fun session and it was so good to see your faces and catch up after so long.

Alex Wilkinson demonstrated a hand-building technique and everyone had an opportunity to ask questions. We chatted, some shared what they have been working on at home during lockdown, and we enjoyed the opportunity to come together and connect. If levels continue to keep the studio closed, we hope to make these a weekly event. The sessions are free and open to current members.

If you would like to join next week, please RSVP to me at manager@waikatopotters.co.nz

If you have a technique you would like to demonstrate in coming sessions, please let me know. The group is attended by people at varying levels of experience and is a very inclusive and friendly audience.

There are still a few spaces available on this workshop. We are on the edge of our seats waiting to hear the news of levels on Monday as we really want this workshop to happen. It's the following weekend 23-25 October (Labour weekend) so if you aren't going away, it would be a real treat.
You might want to wait until after Monday's announcement to make a payment due to uncertainty of the restrictions in the meantime.

Funding for two projects

Thanks to Creative NZ's Creative Communities Scheme and Creative Waikato we have received grant funding for two amazing projects. More information will come but in the meantime, we have a lot of planning to do in order to bring these projects to life. The projects will allow children and teenagers who otherwise might have difficulty accessing the arts an opportunity to learn in our studio. We are excited about these community projects and will tell you more when we have had an opportunity to do some work.

Pick-ups and drop-offs on Saturday

Stephen will be in the studio tomorrow morning from 10 - 1pm for contactless pick up and drop offs. If you would like to purchase clay please email Stephen at info@waikatopotters.co.nz to arrange pick up.

Drop-offs: please measure your work before you drop them off and pay via internet banking. We can't measure onsite at present.  You will need to leave your box behind but can collect it when picking up fired work.

Pick-ups: you will not be able to enter the building so pick-ups are only possible for easily identifiable work. If you have photos that would be helpful.
