The Mighty Waikato Pottery Throwdown

An event to remember this August

Our committee has been planning a treat. We are holding an event you will not want to miss. It's for our WSP members only. Our members are the heart of the society, so we want to put on a free event to say thank you for the good times!

It is going to be a hoot! There will be fun and laughter for everyone, whether you come to watch or you come to participate in a challenge. Honestly, I think just watching might provide the most laughs.

Date and time: 20th August 2022 2-5pm
There will be six timed challenges where participants will attempt to complete a task, including one team challenge. There will also be two additional, more relaxed challenges where participants can create over the course of the afternoon. There will be a mix of handbuilding and wheel throwing events so members can indicate how interested they are in each type and they will be allocated to a challenge. There will be prizes and even a prize draw.

If you are planning to be a spectator, you don't have to do anything but show up on the day - just maybe consider bringing a plate.

If you would like to enter a challenge, we would like to know so we can try to allocate people to challenges ahead of time to have maximum time for fun on the day (also, it's a lot of clay to wedge so we want an idea of numbers). Members will receive an email this afternoon. If you haven't received one already, but would like to participate, email manager@waikatopotters.co.nz for the link.

Play With Clay Schedule Changes

We are open again (with a shiny new bathroom). Term 3 has begun and Play With Clay and Open Studio sessions have been running this week. There are a couple of weekend workshops over the next two weekends and that means that there is no Saturday PWC on 6th or 13th August. Wednesday mornings have been relatively quiet and Tuesday evenings not packed out recently, so you are welcome to come to one of those. The next Saturday PWC is on 20 August in the morning before the Mighty Waikato Pottery Throwdown.

Lidded Vessels workshop with Duncan Shearer
We have just a few spaces left on Duncan Shearer's lidded vessels workshop. His calendar is very full so this is a great opportunity. Duncan is one of our most knowledgeable ceramic artists and always so generous. It's not suitable for beginners, but if you have been throwing for a while I recommend it. Find out more or book online...

Raku Club Firing with David Kenny
Get involved with handling glowing things! Our raku expert, David, will run this event providing our members with an opportunity to fire a few items. Book a spot
