Meri Kirihemete from the team

Text reads "Meri Kirihemete" above strung lights, bells and leaves

Before we wrap things up at the studio we want to thank our volunteers, friends, members, students, community groups and other studio users for another wonderful year.

It's been a year of highs and lows but we are definitely regaining some of the pre-COVID19 rhythm again. You all bring a warmth to the studio that helps us through the challenging times and makes the hard mahi all worthwhile. We hope you all have a great holiday, have some fun, relax and recharge. May the coming weeks be what you need.

An amazing team

I would also like to thank the team at the studio. By team, I include the studio assistants, Larry and Lara; our awesome artists-in-residence Margaret, Linda, Julie and Emma, all our volunteers who keep the Play With Clay sessions going, but especially the regulars Teresa, Tim, Margaret and Tess; David who is so generous with his technical skills and knowledge; the committee members whose vital hard work behind the scenes is often goes unseen - keeping the society on track to meet its strategic goals, organising fun events for our members (who could forget the throwdown?); the tutors who share their secrets and skills every day; and all who have given an hour or two here and there for example to sort tools, load a kiln when we needed a hand, or proof read a contract. Thank you!

The studio is open until 4pm today so if you need to pop in to pick up some work, there is still a little time - and are shelves are still quite full.

The team is looking forward to a rest now. We will be back in January, ready to kick off another awesome year.

Holiday dates

The studio will be closed from 4pm today, Friday 23 December 2022 until 9.30am on Monday 16 January 2023.

New classes

There are new classes up on EventsPronto now. Term 1 begins on 13 February 2023. If you are keen to try out a wheel throwing class before then, David is running a 4 week introduction to wheel throwing class on Tuesday evenings beginning on 17th January.

We will touch base with the volunteers in early January to look at Play With Clay options and update you then.

January woodfiring

There are still some spaces on the woodfiring at the end of January. If you are interested in joining, there will be plenty of time to get your bisque firing done after we open on January 16th.

Clay Festival

A friendly reminder that Yasmin and Jenni are organising Clay Festival to be held over the Waitangi holiday weekend.

Presenters:

  • Kim Henderson (monoprinting on clay, then crafted into vessels)

  • Jennifer Turnbull (lithography transfer printing on clay)

  • Brandon Adams (small modern sculptures; sketches in clay)

  • Mike O'Donnell (Putangitangi clay instruments, clay tile stories, wild straw dog kiln firing on site)

  • Jenni Taris (handbuilding raku birds, naked raku decorating)

  • David Kenny (raku firing birds decorated with Jenni)

  • Yasmin Davis (linocut for ceramics workshops)

This event is being organised by Yasmin and Jenni so please direct queries to them rather than the studio. Contact details and more information: https://www.facebook.com/clayf...  or https://www.eventfinda.co.nz/2...
