Hey! The weekend is upon us - or almost for me - and it's time to chill out after a week's work. I'll be looking for a little escapism because there is just a whole lot going on in the world right now. I desperately need to tend to the garden to start clearing out some of the plants that went to seed long ago, preparing the space for next season's seedlings. Imagine, summer is nearing an end. If you've had a busy week and need some clay therapy, book in for tomorrow morning's Open Studio session...

We have some new members this year so it's a good time to go over a few of the rules for using the studio that are being overlooked by new and not-so-new members lately. As this is a shared space, all studio-users need to help us out a little to ensure everything is running smoothly. Cleaning up after yourself: this is not the responsibility of your tutor or WSP volunteers or staff. Blue cloths (slab roller) - these need to be rinsed out and hung on the clothes horse to dry after use. There...

February 25, 2022Studio access and vaccine passes
Kia ora potters,I am writing just a brief update this week. It's been a long day. Our internet connection is intermittent and frequently timing out so I want to get this off before I lose it! It's been so lovely to see the studio getting more busy again now that classes have begun. It is still really quiet suing Open Studio time and, from what I have seen, in town in general. I know it will be a nervous time for many and I hope you are all well.I would like to take a moment to remind everyo...

We are feeling the love this week and want to say a few words of thanks. We are a charity that is run on a very tight budget and are so grateful for the support of our members, volunteers and kind people in the world. This week, we have received some gifts that have our hearts feeling full.We recently held a working bee in the studio. With the loan of a very long ladder, and Tim Edwards' head for heights, finally changed some lightbulbs and brightened up the space. Between Teresa Gibbison a...

We are lucky to have Javier Murcia with us for two weekends in a row. We had already booked Javier to run a Simplified Figure Sculpture workshop earlier in the year. Lockdown meant postponing to a later date and we picked December in the hope of being open again. As Javier is coming from Wellington, he has decided to make an adventure of the trip and stay a little longer. This means we have an amazing opportunity of a second workshop from this gifted artist. The mold-making and casting work...
November 26, 2021WSP and the New Zealand COVID-19 Protection Framework
Dear potters, As you will be aware, the Government will introduce the COVID-19 Protection Framework (the traffic light system) on Friday 3 December. Along with many other organisations, the WSP committee has given careful consideration to how we will work when New Zealand moves this next stage in the COVID-19 response plan. The decision was made to move the Society to implementing compulsory vaccination certificates for all people coming onto the studio premises, including students, visito...
